We didn’t design our own website

There’s loads of tutorials online showing us how to:

  • Set up webhosting
  • Install WordPress,
  • Buy and install a theme
  • Upload plugins
  • Connect to Twitter,
  • And so on.

But we didn’t, because:

  • This would have taken us 10 times longer than someone who already understands websites,
  • We would have made some pretty fundamental mistakes that were guaranteed to bite us in the ass later on,
  • We’re not very good at it,
  • We’re accountants, not web designers!

You see, we believe that you should stick to what you know.

So why should you try and do your own accounts?

A lot of growing business try this but they shouldn’t.

  • If it’s to save money, then you’re a fool. Take your hourly rate and multiple it by the number of hours you spent doing accountancy things so far this year. Saved any money…?
  • If it’s because you like spreadsheets, then you’re a bigger fool! Modern accountancy packages are like spreadsheets on Nitrous Oxide! Plus, they’re 100% backed up so no more ‘oops’ moments.
  • If it’s because you thought only large companies use accountants, then we, all accountants everywhere, are the fools. We shouldn’t have been lying to you all this time. (Every single one of our clients have fewer than 16 employees!)

Stick to what you know, and get help with what you don’t.

Ok. Rant over*.
