Dear Sage…I’ve met someone new!

dearSageDear Sage,

We need to talk. I think you’ve known it’s been coming for a while, but I can’t pretend any longer.

It’s over, Sage. I’ve met someone new.

There, I said it. It’s been burning me up inside for months now but now the cat is out of the bag. We had some good times (well, average times really), but they’re ancient history now.

You must have known this was coming, so it can’t be too much of a shock. But maybe I should explain why I’ve fallen out of love with you, Sage. I owe you that. So, here goes…

Out-of-date numbers

Your numbers are just out of date. I mean, like, really old! That’s not what I’m after these days. Your reports were giving me financial information from two or three months ago. And that is just no use to me as a business owner.

I need real-time information. Every day! Like clockwork! That’s what makes me happy now because I can make better decisions about my business

Access was a pain

You’re really hard to access, you know. You’d really only let that accountant of yours get proper access and I never got to know the real you. It felt like you were too distant, too complicated…or just too unwilling to let me in, Sage.

I need software that makes it easy to access my numbers, you know.

Overly complicated information

You’re just too complicated for me. I’m running a business here, not trying to get an accountancy degree!

So, even when you did let me in, the numbers you showed me were just incomprehensible to me. These streams of information meant something to that precious accountant of yours, but just sailed right over my head.

I need simple information that tells me about the health of my business, Sage. Is that too much to ask?

Just too difficult to use every day

You were just…just…just too difficult to deal with, Sage. I tried my best. I read that manual you gave me. I went to the seminars. I even stayed up late trying to really understand you.

But you just made it too difficult. I could look at that home screen of yours all day and night and never truly get a handle on what makes you tick.

I need simplicity in my life now. I’ve taken a long, hard look at what I want for my business. And it’s not you, Sage.

So, that’s why I’m moving on. I’ve found someone who makes me feel special. Someone who lets me in, who gives me the numbers I want and makes the whole process a real joy.

They’re called Xero. And I love them.

Yours with no regrets

Small business owner
